Tracks on Elder Tribe

1. Firefly Mountain
Opening the album with Firefly Mountain, Elder Tribe takes listeners on a journey to a place where nature comes alive with magic. The driving rhythm of the acoustic guitar creates a steady, pulsing beat. The lyrics paint a picture of a post-apocalyptic paradise founded by Pagans high on Firefly Mountain after the rest of the world has fallen.

2. Black Cat Strut
Black Cat Strut shifts gears with an upbeat, bluesy vibe. This track leans heavily into the blues influences that underpin Elder Tribe’s sound, with a groovy, foot-tapping rhythm and a gritty vocal performance from Sencha Skene. The song’s protagonist, a mysterious black cat, unwittingly starts a new dance craze. With its swaggering guitar riffs, Black Cat Strut captures the spirit of  Halloween with a touch of humor and whimsy.

3. Lady of the Woods
In Lady of the Woods, Elder Tribe returns to their folk roots, evoking the mystique of ancient forests and the lady who inhabits them. The song’s lilting melody and gentle instrumentation give it a haunting quality, while Skene’s lyrics tell the story of a mysterious woman who seems to be more spirit than flesh. She flees persecution in her homeland only to meet the same in the New World, so she retreats to the woods and the hidden magic that can be found in quiet, untouched places.

4. Someone Else’s Dream
Someone Else’s Dream is a bluesy shuffle about how you can’t return to the past. Going back to old places and trying to revive old memories will only get you nowhere, because you are no longer the person you once were. The past is just a dream…someone else’s dream.

5. Howlin’ at the Moon
With Howlin’ at the Moon, the band unleashes their wild side. This blues-infused rocker features driving percussion, gritty guitar riffs, and a vocal performance that is equal parts raw and primal. The song conjures images of untamed wilderness, werewolves, and the pull of the moon’s mysteries. It’s a song about letting go of inhibitions and embracing the wildness within, making it a standout and a fan favorite on the album.

6. Samhain (Long Ago)
Samhain (Long Ago) delves into the ancient past, celebrating the Celtic festival of Samhain, a time when the veil between worlds is thin. The song’s mournful melody and evocative lyrics bring to life the rituals of old, where ancestors are honored and the mysteries of life and death are acknowledged. The song reminds us that everything that is old is new again, as the traditions of our Ancestors are recaptured in a post-Christian era.

7. The Dragon and the Druid
The Dragon and the Druid is a story-driven song that draws heavily from mythology. It tells the tale of a world where magic and danger coexist. The funky folk-rock instrumentation is complemented by a danceable beat. It’s a track that showcases Skene’s ability to weave narrative storytelling into his music, making it another fan favorite.

8. Merely Animals
In Merely Animals, Elder Tribe delivers a thought-provoking commentary on the human condition. The song’s haunting undertones and delivery challenge listeners to reflect on the ways we, as humans, are connected to the natural world. With lyrics that question our sense of superiority over other creatures, this track serves as a reminder of our shared existence with all living things.

9. Track 4
Though titled simply Track 4, this instrumental piece is anything but ordinary. It serves as a musical interlude, allowing listeners to immerse themselves fully in the soundscapes that Elder Tribe creates. The intricate guitar work and subtle percussion invite quiet contemplation, making Track 4 a serene moment of reflection within the album.

10. When the World Was Young
Closing the album with When the World Was Young, Elder Tribe offers a nostalgic look back at a time when the world was full of wonder and possibility. The song’s gentle melody and wistful lyrics, reminiscent of Southern rock hits of the 1970s, evoke a sense of longing for the past, while also acknowledging the beauty of the present. It’s a fitting end to an album that explores themes of nature, mythology, and the human experience.
